Providing Green Burial Services Throughout Minnesota

Interra green burial by Mueller Memorial has convenient locations in white bear lake and st. Paul, MN, but we are able to provide funeral services to the entire Twin Cities metro area and western Wisconsin. If you’re not sure whether we serve your area you can call us at 651-774-9797 and we can speak directly to your specific needs.

Interra's Standard Service Area

Interra is the only funeral home certified by the national Green Burial Council to provide green burial in Minnesota, so if you or your family are looking for eco friendly funeral services we travel to anywhere within 30 miles of our locations without any additional transportation fees. That includes the entire Twin Cities metro area from Minnetonka to Hudson and North Branch to Apple Valley.

If you look for green burial mn online you’ll likely find some options, but if you speak to them make sure to ask if they’re certified by the national Green Burial Council and if they have met the standards to be recognized with the National Funeral Directors’ Association’s Green Funeral Practices™ Award. Interra green burial has both.

For natural burial, MN has many cemeteries for you to choose from. We work closely with green burial cemeteries in the St Paul and Minneapolis areas to provide a seamless service experience for you and your family.

Our facilities at either location can provide a gathering place if you or your family would like to plan a memorial service or celebration, but many of the families we serve choose to have their memorial service at the graveside.

Greater Minnesota and Western Wisconsin

If you’re outside of the St. Paul and Minneapolis areas but are looking for green burials, minnesota funeral homes can possibly coordinate with Interra to have your loved one cared for until we are able to reach their location. The specifics of that situation would need to be determined by speaking directly to our funeral director and really figuring out what your needs are and how Interra would fit into that plan.

Finding a Cemetery

One of the key element for a conservation burial is finding a cemetery that is a good fit for you. There are generally three types of cemeteries with green burial options; hybrid cemeteries, exclusively green cemeteries, and cemeteries with dedicated space for natural burial.

Interra most frequently works with hybrid cemeteries like Roselawn Cemetery in Roseville, MN and Mound Cemetery in Brooklyn Center, MN which can provide green burial anywhere on their grounds, but continue to provide conventional burial as well. If you have a traditional cemetery in mind, or if you already own a plot, we can work with your cemetery to make the burial as green as possible within their operating standards. No cemetery requires embalming and we will help you find the right carrier from a selection of all-natural green burial caskets, shrouds, or flat carrier.

If you are seeking an all natural burial cemetery, your choices narrow. In the Twin Cities, Prairie Oaks Memorial Eco Gardens in Inver Grove Heights is currently the only cemetery to accommodate only green burials. They do however, also permit burial of cremated remains, whether cremated by flame or alkaline hydrolysis (often referred to as “green cremation”) in their burial grounds. There are not individual grave markers, instead GPS is used to determine grave locations.

Cemeteries with dedicated green space, like Resurrection Cemetery in Mendota Heights, MN, have an area of their cemetery set aside exclusively for the purpose of accommodating natural burial. At Resurrection, this is an open area planted with native grasses and wildflowers that is minimally groomed. There are not individual grave markers but large stones upon which the names of those interred in the area are engraved.

Interra Green Burial by Mueller Memorial can work with you to help you determine which location and which cemetery is right for you.
